Story
Self portrait on a battle field
The canvas starts on a battlefield showing the Vikings' conquering war, so I painted their boat far away and the destruction of a village.
Then I painted a destroyed ship representing the 100 Years' War between the French and British - or sometimes also against the Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese, etc.
I painted the dictator Caesar's invasions, and then Napoleon, whose ideas to me seem to be not so far removed from Caesar's.
Then I painted the massacre of the Native Americans in North America as a genocidal war. I painted some towels that the French soldiers were distributing to them for hygiene but that were infected with a virus to finish the good work of extermination.
Then a First World War battle showing the trenches where soldiers died more often from sickness than from warfare on battlefield.
Then the Second World War, the Normandy landing, German positions, dead people all over. The German V1s and V2s as the revenge for losing the war, Nazism and the end of the road for the interned Jews, with their extermination in a wagon.
Then I painted the genocidal war in Rwanda, chapping and killing people with machetes and you can see limbs everywhere.
Then I painted the Yugoslavian ethnic ceasing , killing kids, pregnant woman and even old people without consideration just hatred.
Then I painted the Vietnam wars with near the helicopter some wooden box and white parcel of drugs. Because I don't believe that the American intention to go there was to establish stability in this country but more to get the country to import drugs to the U.S.A
I also painted some little dolls to remind us of the nice work of soldiers dropping dolls stuffed with explosives to blow-up the kids in small villages as a means of smoking out the parents.
Then I painted the Israel and Palestinian conflict with a suicide car bombing a Israelite bus and a Palestinian with a cocktail Molotov since its the only weapon that is readily available almost. Could politicians, some day, picture their own kid on a battlefield before engaging in a war or conflict situation. Do they know the diplomatic way, as they are politicians?
Then I painted the Iraq war and dead Iraqi wearing plastic bag on his head, as torture while jailed by the US soldiers.
I also painted barrels of oil since as in Vietnam, I don't believe that it was a national security reason of course but a war for oil and making money on the reconstruction of the country. Then I painted a sign ˇ°weapons of mass destructionˇ± showing a small slingshot with two small rockets weapons of the Iraqi resistance.
Then I finished by painting myself on my knees, surrendering with my Oliver splashes life in front of me, and wearing a T-shirt with the peace symbol.
Then I signed my name in blood: ˇ°Oliverˇ±
Words to parents
If you don't want to see your kid some day on a battle field as I painted please stop buying them plastic guns to teach kids simulate war with their friends shooting each other. Stop letting your kids play computer war games shooting at everything that moves on a screen.
Stop letting them watch war on TV so that they will play war at school the next day fighting with their classmates. You'll better to take them to look at my battlefield painting and explain to them what is a battlefield after the war and encourage them not to fight so as not to end up dead on a battlefield some day.
